Citizen of the year: André Sirois
Aylmer’s Citizen of the Year honour was awarded to André Sirois, April 7. The annual steak dinner and celebration of citizenry was held at the Aydelu Centre Saturday. Nominated by Rhoda Scott, Mr Sirois won the award for a life-time of community work. Ms Scott is a fellow volunteer with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Aylmer, of which André Sirois is president. He is a leader with the St Mark’s conference of the Society and heads the Guignolée Christmas fundraising effort. The Guignolée is work-intensive and involves co-ordinating hundreds of volunteers to collect donations and then deliver hundreds of food baskets at Christmas for families in need.
Mr Sirois was an ideal candidate, noted Civitan president, Lynda Beaudry, as the Citizen of the Year “must have demonstrated qualities of good citizenship, unselfish tenacity and dedication to improve the quality of life of the community.”
